Bloomsdale Spinach is an heirloom, open-pollinated spinach variety known for it's heat-tolerance in late spring and early fall. Also known as "long-standing spinach," this variety was introduced in the 1920s and has been a favorite of backyard gardeners since. Bloomsdale produces plants with an upright growth habit. This keeps the leaves cleaner during periods of heavy precipitation and also allows for easier harvesting.
The leaves are thick and heavily savoyed or crinkled. They are also dark green and very nutritious. This is a great variety for raw consumption or cooking. Use it as the base for your favorite salad, or lightly sauté for a flavorful, delicious side dish.
